  • Mar 30,2020

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate (NEET-UG) 2020 scheduled for May 3 has been postponed to the last week of May. Accordingly, admit cards, which were due to be issued on Friday, will be issued after assessing the situation after April 15, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said.

The NTA, in a public notice issued on Friday evening, said NEET-UG 2020 “is proposed to be held in the last week of May 2020. The exact date will be announced later after assessing the situation”.

The decision was taken after a meeting between senior officials of the ministries of health and HRD on Friday.

The notice, issued by NTA director-general Vineet Joshi said, “Because of the difficulties face by parents and students due to Covid-19 epidemic, the NTA has postponed NEET Exam 2020 which is programmed to be held on 3 May 2020.”

It is recommended for students to continue visiting the official website for all the future updates and NTA ensured the candidates that they will be notified personally through their registered mobile number/email ID.

With the remaining CBSE, NIOS and CISCE Board exams being postponed till after March 21, competitive exams to be conducted thereafter will also be affected. After the news of the 21-day lockdown across the country on March 24, the JEE (Main) exam scheduled in the first and second week of April too stands postponed. “The new dates are likely to be declared only after the lockdown period is over and following review of the Covid-19 outbreak.”, A senior government official said.

According to sources, for JEE (Main), NTA will probably have to wait till school education boards like CBSE publish their new dates for the few exams that could not be conducted due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Earlier, school boards and NTA were supposed to work on the new dates after March 31. But now, they may have to wait until the lockdown to end.
